Biography
Nadine Engels holds a PhD in Educational Sciences (1994). She’s currently head of the Multidisciplinary Institute for Teacher Education (MILO) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Her research is mainly in the domain of professional learning and development of practitioners in education. Recently the focus has been on inquiry-based collaborative teacher learning in schools, whereby communities of pre- and in-service teachers, teacher educators, students and other stakeholders (e.g. parents) participate in practitioner research aimed at improvement of practice. A special interest for diversity and equal opportunities in education is often combined with this focus on professional learning of teachers, e.g., in research projects on gender equity, inclusive learning environments, and differentiated instruction.
